Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) of Tongji University keeps pace with professional development of International Chinese Education, aiming for cultivating applied, multi-skillful and cross-cultural teachers who can teach Chinese as a second language via adopting diversified cultivation modes, relying on stable and high-qualified teaching staff and implementing a series of characteristic courses based on effective practical platform systems home and abroad. Three-year professional study will enable students to be armed with ability of 1) teaching Chinese and Chinese culture in China and other countries; 2) undertaking multi-country, multi-type and multi-level teaching tasks; 3) spreading Chinese culture in a desirable way; 4) proficiently mastering more than one foreign language.
In accordance with the basic principles of practical, occupational and comprehensive talent cultivation, the students majoring in MTCSOL are required to be capable of integrating theory with practice to solve problems in teaching. The cultivation duration is three years, including one-year teaching practice.
The curriculum is application-oriented. It mainly targets in fostering the ability of Chinese teaching, Chinese culture comprehension and cross-culture communication, thus forming a system with core courses, module expansion courses and practice drill courses involved.
Taking academic front development trends into account, core courses focus on fundamental knowledge so as to lay a solid foundation for students’ academic skills. Besides, Module Expansion Courses and Practice Drill Courses emphasize scene teaching. By utilizing modern teaching techniques, these courses subcategorize skills in Chinese teaching into Chinese knowledge, language skills, cultural transmission and cross-cultural communication so that students’ comprehensive abilities are enhanced, including better performance in teaching, better organizing an activity in class, demonstrating a skill concerning Chinese culture, and etc.

The major adopts non-full-time mode, which means the courses will be taken on weekends. Students will obtain both academic degree certificate and diploma after meeting all cultivation requirements.
