Pre-University Program for International Students of Tongji University
1. Introduction:
The enrollment object of this program is international students who have completed their high school learning tasks, plan to study Chinese teaching undergraduate programs in China, and need to accept “Bridge Courses” of science and technology, medicine and economy and trade in the Pre-University education stage. The teaching goal of “Bridge Courses” is to help international students basically realize the connection between their own high school courses and Chinese undergraduate programs.
Tongji University is one of the universities that have undertaken the preparatory education for Chinese government scholarship students in 2009, and at the same time enrolled self-funded preparatory students. Relying on the influence of Shanghai as an international city, Tongji's 100 years of internationalization, the academic advantages of comprehensive universities and the management mode of integrating Chinese and foreign students, Tongji University has so far trained more than 3,500 science/medical students from more than 130 countries, creating a preparatory training base for studying in China with distinctive Shanghai heritage and Tongji characteristics. Tongji University's preparatory faculty team has won many university-level and city-level collective honors.
At present, the Pre-University Department has nearly 80 countries of Chinese government scholarship undergraduate preparatory students and some self-sponsored students in school. They will systematically study general Chinese, professional Chinese, mathematics, physics, chemistry and other basic courses, and participate in various forms of school activities, such as language and culture activities around teaching, Experience of China activities, etc.
According to the characteristics of international students, the preparatory course “Bridge Courses” helps students quickly master the learning methods of China’s famous universities, adapt to the undergraduate learning life in advance, shorten the adaptation period of studying abroad, and finally smoothly enter the dream university suitable for themselves to study undergraduate major.
After completing the Pre-University program, our school will also provide students with a more comprehensive and targeted application information service platform, provide students with one-to-one application consulting services, and help students better plan further learning. Students who have completed the required courses and passed the completion examination will obtain the preparatory completion certificate issued by Tongji University, and give priority to Tongji undergraduate.
2. Curriculum
The preparatory course is divided into two semesters: 17-18 weeks in the first semester (Autumn) and 17-18 weeks in the second semester (spring). According to students' Chinese level, they are divided into four levels: A, B, C and D; It is divided into compulsory and elective courses according to students' professional needs and native languages. The specific arrangements are as follows:
Level A-B courses are for beginners of Chinese level ( HSK 3 level below – HSK 4 level), with about 32-36 class hours per week

6. Application periods:
Autumn Semester: February- May (for autumn semester).
Spring Semester: September-November (for spring semester of next year).

7. Application Procedure:
1. Apply online and pay the application fee according to the specified time.
2. The International Students Office of Tongji University sends the Acceptance Notice and the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students to China (JW202) to the accepted international students.
3. International students should apply for the visa to study in China at the Chinese embassies and consulates abroad with the Acceptance Letter and the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students (JW202).
4. Students must register at the International Student Office on time in accordance with the detailed requirements in the Admission Notice.
5. The international students should purchase comprehensive insurance on the registration day.
